UMTS coverage extension by custom antena

UMTS antena ready

I had already internet in my countryside house, but it was based in GPRS. I could live with it so in future. But I got some information that one nearby (~ 4km) base station has UMTS. So I started to dig for solutions. My hardware already supported UMTS, but coverage was week. Also for GPSR internet I had manufactured yagi antena.
After some searches I found that good gain antena was not so easy to find here in Latvia and was pretty costy. From the other side I had seend some descriptions in HAM's site about constructions of antenas.
So I made some searches on internet and stopped at Yagi calculator of John Drew . There are also good detailed pictures about Yagi antennas constructions and links to another how tos with pictures.
I had mostly of parts needed for construction and pick them together in my project of yagi antena for UMTS. Thanks to John Drew for support in some detailed questions. So the result you can see in the picture attached. It is yagi for 2000 Mhz, near 1 meter long, with 18 directors and with isolated folded dipole.
At the time of writing I already succesfuly tested it. My modem shows "fair" coverage level, that is lowest from three there available, but it connection is stable and of course fast. I got on a download bandwithmeter the spead readings around 1 mbs. I am a bit worring about upload speed - it is only around 10 kBytes/s and unstable. I am not shure is it antena problem or service provider problem. While it does not make any sense when working with web browser or even with remote desktops, it does hard on f.ex. image uploads.
The relief is rather flat with some small forest patches in the way to base station. Let's see how it will works for summer time when threes will have leaves.
